Today, I’d like to share with you this tribute video of Raffaella Carrà to Alitalia, the "flag carrier" that, over the years, has burned through a staggering amount of Italian public funds.
I can’t decide whether the choreography, the direction, the cinematography, or the image of our national Raffaella dancing inside a turbine is more sublime or more horrific. Just imagine the jet engine suddenly switching on, turning the showgirl into shreds like a scene straight out of South Park—just as Alitalia spent years shredding Italian taxpayers' money. The joyful display of Italian spirit during the Years of Lead, while train stations were being blown up and the mafia was hanging bankers under London bridges like Christmas ornaments… And that's it—it's already perfect as it is.
From today onwards, every time I set off for a new destination, slightly increasing my own personal carbon footprint, I will think of Raffaella and throw in a few of her dance moves at the airport.
