Suvereto is a charming little ancient hamlet halfway between Siena and the Thyrrenian sea.

Right in front of the town hall (a massive 13th century building) is the Osteria I'Ciocio, which I consider one of the best restaurants in Maremma.

I' Ciocio combines fine dining techniques with affordable prices and all the dishes are very tasty (which is not to be taken for granted when it comes to fine dining cuisine). The menu is based both on fish and meat; a special mention goes to the fiorentina steak: the meat is seasoned for months by the chef himself in the basement of the restaurant.

Ambiance and Setting

The restaurant is set in a beautiful and rustic building, which perfectly complements the enchanting surroundings of Suvereto. With exposed stone walls, wooden beams, and an intimate, cozy atmosphere, I’ Ciocio provides a true taste of Tuscany’s charm. During the warmer months, guests can enjoy alfresco dining in the lovely courtyard, which adds to the restaurant's romantic and tranquil ambiance.

Service

The service at I' Ciocio is warm and attentive to detail. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to guide diners through the menu, offering recommendations that suit individual preferences. The restaurant strikes a balance between professionalism and the familial touch, making every guest feel welcome and cared for. Whether it’s suggesting wine pairings from the extensive list of local Tuscan labels or explaining the ingredients in a dish, the team ensures that every dining experience is personal and special.

Cuisine

At the heart of I’ Ciocio is its menu, which highlights the best of Tuscan cuisine with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal ingredients. The restaurant takes pride in sourcing local produce, meats, and cheeses, and this dedication to quality shines through in each dish. The menu features a variety of traditional Tuscan dishes with a contemporary twist. Appetizers like the classic Tuscan crostini or a plate of locally sourced cured meats and cheeses are a great way to start the meal.

The primi piatti (first courses) offer rich, flavorful pasta dishes such as pappardelle with wild boar ragu or gnocchi with fresh truffle. These dishes capture the robust, earthy flavors that Tuscany is known for, while remaining balanced and refined. The secondi piatti (main courses) often include succulent meat options like bistecca alla Fiorentina, perfectly grilled and served with fresh vegetables, or slow-cooked lamb that melts in your mouth. For those who prefer seafood, the restaurant offers excellent fish dishes, caught fresh from the nearby coast.

Wine Selection

Being in Tuscany, it’s no surprise that I’ Ciocio offers an impressive selection of wines. The wine list predominantly features local producers, with a variety of Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, and Bolgheri wines, allowing diners to fully immerse themselves in the region’s rich wine culture. The staff is adept at recommending the perfect pairing for each course, further enhancing the overall experience.

Conclusion

I’ Ciocio is a must-visit restaurant for anyone exploring the Suvereto area or Tuscany in general. Its combination of traditional Tuscan flavors, contemporary flair, impeccable service, and warm, inviting atmosphere makes it stand out. Whether you’re seeking a romantic dinner or a relaxing lunch in the heart of Tuscany, I’ Ciocio delivers an unforgettable experience.
